=============================
I, (Karen Kroll, President WI Horse Council) am sharing this message from AHC with you all because I think it is important information.  At a personal level, I encourage each of you to contact your Senators and Representatives to oppose this legislation.  This is another piece of legislation that flies against the facts presented in their own federal GAO report.  I also urge you to share this with your own organizations and encourage your memberships to take action.  This continued assault on our U.S. equine industry has to stop.  The best way to contact your Congressional officials is through e-mail.  Postal service in Washington DC is still very slow due to the levels of required inspection.  Check out www.house.gov and www.senate.gov to find your members of Congress.

June 2011

The Wisconsin Horse Council voted last night to support the development of a comprehensive program to support needs of unwanted horses:

a.  Supporting education on responsible breeding and gelding of excess stallions
b.  The creation of a hay bank program to assist families that have fallen on temporary hard times
c.  The establishment of a horse rescue certification program
d.  The establishment of a stress and financial management  program for horse owners
e.  Support for the reestablishment of horse processing facilities in the US as long as appropriate humane transportation and handling requirements are maintained

The loss of horse processing facilities in the US has resulted in:

  1. Increased stress on horses and owners
  2. Substantial reduction in the value of horses
  3. Increased horse abandonment
  4. Increased neglect of unwanted horses
  5. Excess horses for horse adoption programs
Thanks, Linda

February 2011

The Horse Council had its meeting on Feb 23, 2011.

This is the Unwanted Horse/Horse Processing Resolution WHC developed:

Whereas the loss of horse processing facilities in the US has resulted in:

  •   Increased stress on horses and horse owners;

  •   Substantial reduction in the value of horses;

  •   Increased horse abandonment;

  •   Increased neglect of unwanted horses;and

  •   Excess horses for horse adoption programs;

Now therefore be it resolved that WI Horse Council supports the reestablishment of horse processing facilities in the US as long  as appropriate humane transportation and handling requirements are maintained.

The Horse Council has voted to give $1000 support to the United Organization of the Horse to assist in working with unwanted horse issues .

WI Horse Council Hay Bank is a program also available thru the Horse Council for any private eqine owners in properly caring for their equine when under ecomomic stress.  Go to the web site for an application or contact the office.

Thanks,

Linda

December 2010

December 2010 update on what has been going on with the WI State Horse Council. Things have been pretty quiet . There were no meetings in November or December. Before that, the Horse Council had decided to make a few changes within. They have changed their name to just – WI Horse Council – dropping the word State. Also, they have changed their logo. The new one will be released at the Midwest Horse Fair (April 15 – 17, 2011).

District 5 (there are 5 districts within the Horse Council dividing the whole state up in sections) plans on sponsoring a Competitive Trail Horse Challenge this coming year. It will be held on May 21 at WildCat Mountain, off the Yellow Trail. Camping will be available at Moon Ridge (small private campground next to Wildcat) for anyone wishing to camp for the weekend. They are hoping the other 4 Districts will also hold a trail competition in their areas. Then on Sept 17, a final competition will be held for all the top winners of the previous competitions. This is something all Trail riders may like to try!
